Overview

Kazakhstan passports are issued by the State Corporation Government for Citizens under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The official photo is 35x45mm on a plain light grey background, which is one of the few national specs that names grey rather than white. Photos must be in colour, taken within the last six months, and show the full face looking straight at the camera. The head must run roughly 32 to 36mm from chin to crown.

Requirements

  • Print the photo at 35x45mm, equivalent to 413x531 pixels at 300 DPI.
  • Use a plain light grey background with even lighting and no shadow.
  • Keep the head centred and facing the camera straight on.
  • Hold a neutral expression with the mouth closed and both eyes open.
  • Make sure the head measures about 32 to 36mm from chin to the top of the hair.
  • Leave at least 3mm of space above the top of the head.
  • Take the photo within the last six months so it matches your current look.
  • Reproduce natural skin tone and hair colour with no colour casts or filters.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • White or coloured backgrounds instead of the required grey.
  • Smiling, frowning, or any non-neutral expression.
  • Shadows on the face or behind the head from uneven lighting.
  • Head tilted, turned, or too small or too large in the frame.
  • Hair or accessories covering the eyes or the outline of the face.
  • Old photos or images that have been retouched or filtered.

Tips

  • Shoot against a grey wall or grey sheet rather than the more common white.
  • Use soft, frontal light from two sides to avoid shadows under the chin.
  • Pull hair back so the full face and ears area stays visible.
  • Check that your eyes are level and looking directly into the lens.
  • Keep glasses off if you can, since reflections are an easy way to fail.
