Overview

Nepal passports, both the MRP and the newer ePassport, are issued by the Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The photo is 35x45mm in colour on a plain white background, and the rules are identical for both passport types. The face should fill close to 80 percent of the frame, with head height around 32.5mm from chin to crown. Head coverings are only allowed for genuine religious or medical reasons, and even then the full face must stay visible.

A uniform white background with no shadows, objects, or other people.

Requirements

  • Photo dimensions exactly 35x45mm in colour.
  • Plain white background, evenly lit.
  • Face occupying roughly 80 percent of the image.
  • Taken within the last six months.
  • Applicant facing the camera directly, head centred.
  • Neutral expression with eyes open.
  • No hats or head coverings except for religious or medical reasons.
  • High resolution between 600 and 1200 DPI.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Background that is not plain white.
  • Other people or objects visible in the shot.
  • Head covering that hides part of the face.
  • Photo older than six months.
  • Tilted head or gaze away from the camera.
  • Low resolution or blurred print.

Tips

  • Keep the same photo standard whether applying for MRP or ePassport.
  • Fill the frame with your face to hit the 80 percent mark.
  • Light the background separately to keep it pure white.
  • Remove glasses if there is any glare on the lenses.
  • Sit or stand straight so the head stays centred.
