Turkish passport photos follow a 50x60mm format, larger than the European standard, as mandated by the Directorate General of Population and Citizenship Affairs (Nufus ve Vatandaslik Isleri Genel Mudurlugu). Turkey updated its biometric passport photo standards in 2023 to align more closely with ICAO recommendations, tightening requirements around head positioning and facial expression. Turkish passport offices (Nufus Mudurlugu) provide on-site photo capture, but applicants may also submit pre-made photos from certified studios.

Exigences
- Photo must be 50x60mm with the face occupying 70-80% of the frame from chin to crown
- Background must be plain white and evenly lit across the entire surface
- Expression must be neutral with mouth closed, no smile, and both eyes open
- No glasses are permitted, including clear prescription frames
- Head coverings are allowed for religious reasons only, with the full face from forehead to chin visible
- Photo must be taken within the last 6 months and printed in full color
- No digital retouching, filters, or cosmetic alterations to the image
- Photo must be printed on quality photo paper with smooth surface and no damage
Raisons courantes de rejet
- Wearing glasses of any type in the passport photo
- Photo dimensions deviating from the 50x60mm Turkish standard; European 35x45mm is rejected
- Background not white or containing shadows, especially behind the head
- Digital retouching or beauty filters detected upon comparison at the Nufus office
- Head covering obscuring the hairline, forehead, or any part of the face
- Photo older than 6 months or showing a significantly different appearance
Conseils
- Specify the 5x6cm Turkish passport format when visiting any photo studio, as it differs from the standard European size
- Remove glasses entirely; this has been mandatory in Turkey since the 2023 biometric standard update
- For women wearing a hijab, pin the covering tightly around the face and ensure the full forehead is visible
- If planning to use a Nufus Mudurlugu on-site camera, arrive early as queues build during morning hours
- Carry two identical prints and a digital copy in case the Nufus office requests both formats
