Uganda's passports are issued by the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The standard photo is 35x45mm on a plain white background, with a clear frontal view of the face. Uganda now runs an East African Community e-passport system, and most applications go through the online portal where you upload a digital photo. The picture must be recent, sharp, and in full colour with natural skin tones.

  • Photo size must be 35x45mm (413x531 pixels at 300 DPI for digital uploads).
  • Use a plain white background with even lighting and no visible shadows.
  • Face the camera straight on with a neutral expression and mouth closed.
  • Keep both eyes open and clearly visible, with no hair across the face.
  • Taken within the last 6 months so it reflects your current appearance.
  • Full colour photo with accurate, natural skin tones.
  • Centre the head so the full face shows from crown to chin.
  • Religious or medical head coverings are allowed if the full face stays visible.

Raisons courantes de rejet

  • Coloured, patterned, or shadowed background instead of plain white.
  • Smiling, frowning, or any non-neutral expression.
  • Eyes closed, partly shut, or hidden behind hair or glare.
  • Old photo that no longer matches your current look.
  • Blurry, pixelated, or low-resolution image.
  • Sunglasses, tinted lenses, or hats that obscure the face.

Conseils

  • Stand a short distance from a white wall to avoid casting a shadow behind you.
  • Use soft, even daylight so one side of the face is not darker than the other.
  • Remove regular glasses if they cause any reflection on the lenses.
  • Check the digital file meets the portal's pixel and file-size limits before uploading.
  • Keep shoulders square to the camera and chin level, not tilted up or down.
