Ireland accepts applications through Passport Online (the online renewal portal), in-person at passport offices in Dublin and Cork, and by mail. For online applications, digital photos must be uploaded in JPEG format and pass automated biometric checks. The Irish Passport Office has strict requirements: glasses are not permitted, the expression must be neutral, and the face must be evenly lit with no shadows. Photos for children under 5 have slightly relaxed expression requirements.

- Irish photo booths at many post offices produce compliant photos and provide both printed and digital copies
- If submitting by mail, have the photos signed on the back by a witness as required by the application form
- Avoid turtleneck or high-collar clothing that may blend with the background near the chin
- For children under 5, a neutral expression is preferred but a slightly open mouth is tolerated
